Biography
Sue established SHP (Sue Hodges Productions) in 2001 after working as the State Library of Victoria’s Field Historian and Public History Centre Manager (1990-2000) and as the Director of Museums and Experiences at Australian Business Theatre (2000-2001). She began her career as an historian but has since become passionate about interpretation in all forms.
Sue has specialised in natural and cultural interpretation throughout her career. She was curator and project manager of the national touring exhibition Raiders of the Lost Archive and curated, produced Parks Victoria’s Centenary displays and produced the benchmark Bibliography of Oral Histories of the Australian Alps for the Australian Alps Liaison Committee. She has worked for the former Australian Heritage Commission, the former Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands and Heritage Victoria on the interpretation of historical and natural sites. She is the author of Hands-on History, which is currently in all ACT government schools and some WA schools.
SHP has a wide range of clients around Australia, including Fremantle Arts Centre, LandCorp, VicUrban, Deakin University, Parks Victoria and Museums and Galleries NSW. Sue is excited about using new technology in interpretation and creating meaningful, relevant and innovative projects. SHP has pioneered several new interpretive forms, including heritage-themed sculptures. On a personal note, Sue is an animal lover and has three rescued dogs, Daisy, Bones and Molly, and six Peking ducks. She has just written a children’s book, Dougal’s Big Day Out, which tells how she found her drake, Dougal, at the local shopping centre. |
