Interpretation Australia, with the generous support of Carrick Hill, hosted an Interpretation Evening on Wednesday 20 April 2011. It was attended by members of the SA state chapter, and two visitors who'd come from Mexico for the occasion!

Richard Heathcote, Director of Carrick Hill, and Professor Jane James, Flinders University Department Tourism, gave talks on whole of site interpretation, and gave entertaining details of the current plans being developed for the stables at Carrick Hill, including games for children. Attendees were enthusiastic about the proposed games of modified polo (using hobby horses and foam mallets and balls), egg-and-spoon races and sack races.
Returning to the stately interior of Carrick Hill, attendees heard about the controversy over future directions for Sissinghurst in Kent, and the relevance of these discussions and directions for Carrick Hill.
Richard also showed attendees his diggers, which were impressively large - see photo below.

It was an excellent evening in which many useful ideas were proposed and discussed, friendships made and renewed, and food and drink shared in superb surroundings.
Interpretation Australia would like to thank Richard Heathcote for his ongoing support, and for making this fabulous venue available to us, Jane James for her participation, and the State Chapter representatives for organising the function and the delicous refreshments.
