2009: IAA's first Trade Expo and Training Workshop

E-mail Print PDF

IAA's first Trade Expo and Training Workshop held in Sydney in November 2009 was very successful.

A half-day training workshop was presented in the morning and then repeated in the afternoon.  Workshop attendees were able to spend the other half-day visiting the trade displays.  The workshop sessions covered developing interpretive media from planning to execution.  Fifty-nine participants from six states attended, and from a variety of organizations including: zoos, museums, national parks, graphic designers, botanic gardens, and heritage planners.

The feedback from the workshop has also been very positive.

“Good to have trade reps present their info as speakers”

“I liked the 5 min trade presentations as a synopsis of what they offer”.

Exhibits showed a range of interpretive production technologies and their alternatives, and there were displays by planning and design consultants.

Exhibitors were impressed by the highly organized event, and commented that:

“The running of the sessions twice worked well from the point of view of the exhibitors. It meant that there was a steady flow of people throughout the day compared to when you try and see everyone during the brief breaks.”

“..from our point of view it generated a lot of interest in our products”

“Thank you for the great Expo. I made 11 very good contacts and will definitely exhibit next time!”

The IAA is planning to run Trade Expos and workshops in other states in future.  If you are interested in participating in or exhibiting at such an event, or would like to help plan an event in your state, please contact the Executive Officer, Sally Stephenson, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
