IA National Conference 2012
Melbourne, 12-15 November 2012
Next year marks Interpretation Australia’s 20th birthday, which is an ideal opportunity to reflect on our changing industry. IA’s 2012 conference will look at the future and the many challenges faced by interpreters.
The program will explore issues such as:
Sustainability: How do we make our industry and the sites we work for/with sustainable and viable for the future? How can interpretation respond to environmental issues such as climate change?
Technology and innovation: Can we use innovative technology such as Smartphones and social media more effectively? What practical considerations do we need to deal with? How do we integrate innovative interpretation with more traditional formats?
Challenging ourselves and others: How do we empower people and encourage behavioural change? How do we interpret difficult stories? Is it time to reconsider the models and tools interpreters use?
Located in Melbourne, Australia’s cultural and sporting hub, Future Challenge promises to offer valuable insights for anyone working in visitor and education services, design, tour guiding, planning, curatorial and content development roles at museums, historic sites, national and state parks, botanic gardens and reserves, zoos, aquariums, science centres and local government.
There will be new formats, insightful discussions, field trips to some of Australia’s best natural and cultural heritage places and plenty of fun networking opportunities.
Don’t miss it!
